The Third Time Around -- Solo Presentations for Yacht Clubs
Robin is one of a small and elite group of sailors who has completed three solo circumnavigations of the globe as a competitor in the 1990, 1994 and 1998 Around Alone races.
Robin's spectacular slide and video presentation brings an evening of high adventure, thrills and spills, from the heat of the equatorial doldrums to the freezing wastes of the Southern Ocean and Cape Horn.
His exciting, humorous, and entertaining show is suitable for any audience or age group, whether it's an annual meeting, a buffet/dinner evening, or an event to share with neighboring yacht clubs. It will be an occasion to remember.
He speaks to school audiences at all grade levels, from kindergarten through graduate school, and brings a terrific presentation to family audiences.
Workshops
Robin's presentations are visual, humorous, and entertaining for all audiences, including families and children.
Robin's speech is not a technical talk about sailing, yachts or yacht design. Upon request, however, he can and will do workshop-type presentations that focus on topics of choice by the booking yacht club.
…Unmatched Determination…
In addition to his three solo circumnavigations, Robin has crossed the Atlantic seven times, competing in the 1988 OSTAR to finish second in the 40-foot Class 4 fleet.
He has been at sea since leaving college, and has more than 20 years of British Merchant Navy Experience worldwide, on all types of passenger and cargo ships. Robin spent two years in the Falkland Islands with the British Forces during the Falkland's conflict with Argentina, and spent two years in the Persian Gulf in the mid-1980s manning salvage and firefighting tugs in Iran during the Iran/Iraqi war.
Dismasted in the Southern Ocean, he is one of a very few individuals to have endured the storms of the southern latitudes and to have sailed around Cape Horn under jury rig.
For 23 days he maneuvered his rudderless yacht over 2000 miles to Cape Town, South Africa: 23 sleepless days and nights. With food running out before he arrived in port, he lost more than 30 pounds of weight during the journey.
A story worth hearing…a speech to remember.
