ALTERNATIVE SCHOOLS
and ALTERNATIVE GROUPS

Robin's background is one with which alternative students and groups easily identify. Robin himself had little or no parental structure at home, a lack of interest in school, poor grades, and an inability to fit into the traditional classroom structure.

Not the best of scholars, Robin earned Ds on a good day, which wasn't very often, and, in hindsight, probably had an attention deficit that thwarted his ability to learn in a regular classroom setting.

Robin preferred the beach to the classroom and was asked not to return to school at the end of 10th grade. School report cards would identify him as someone who was least likely to succeed.

Merchant Navy College wasn't much better, and he dropped out at the end of his first year to hang out on the beach, drink, do stupid things, and get his wrists slapped by the law before taking himself back to college and a profession as a Merchant Navy Officer.

But Robin never lost sight of his schoolboy dream to one day sail around the world - Alone - one person on a sailboat. It would take him 20 years to realize and achieve that dream and goal, and there would be many difficulties, challenges, and setbacks along the way, both on the water and ashore.

Robin now has sailed around the world - Alone - and is one of a very few individuals to have done it three times. He is respected worldwide as one of the most determined and resourceful of sailors.

For alternative education schools and groups, Robin's presentation will raise and hold students' interest and attention for its 40- to 45-minute duration with its totally positive, lively, and fast-paced combination of spectacular pictures and fascinating stories. His is a message-rich program that generally concludes with 15 or 20 minutes of questions, answers, discussion, and comment.

Many alternative school and group presentations are part of a full-day booking with a school district whereby he also presents to high, middle, elementary schools, or local colleges.
