Everyday, regardless of the difficulties
and challenges we confront, is...
AS GOOD AS IT GETS
Robin brings a unique and action-packed perspective on challenge though a spectacular slide and video presentation of adventure, sailing, the ocean and wildlife.
The Around Alone race is the longest race on earth for an individual in any sport - the race is acknowledged to be an Ultimate Challenge, where everyone to finish is a winner. Robin has competed in three Around Alone races.
The same elements of determination, perseverance, goal setting, "can do" attitude, and realistic optimism apply as equally to the classroom and to students as they do to the solo sailor and an Around the World sailing race.
…Unmatched determination…
Solo sailor Robin Davie just doesn't give up; he has a reputation and determination to finish races that is equal to anyone sailing the oceans today.
He's been dismasted in the Southern Ocean and is one of a very few individuals to have endured the storms of the Southern Ocean and sailed around Cape Horn under a jury rig.
For 23 sleepless days and nights he maneuvered his rudderless yacht more than 2000 miles to Capetown, South Africa. With food running out before he arrived in port, he lost more than 30 pounds of weight during the journey.
He spent two years in the Falkland Islands with the British Forces, and manned salvage and firefighting tugs in the Persian Gulf during the mid-1980s Iran/Iraq conflict.
As good as it gets…
Now you can hear Robin's story first hand!
